Saint James

saint-james.jpgSaint James began in 1850 in Normandy, France, created by Léon Legallais, who was the mayor of a village there called Saint-James. From spinning wool from the spinning mill he founded, Legallais eventually invented the Saint James Breton Fisherman Sweater, which protected the Breton and Norman fishermen from the elements while still allowing movement.

In the 1970's, the brand became popular with holidaying French people who wanted a summery, nautical look, expanding from only knitwear, to include woven fabric. The brand is still immensely popular and recognisable, both in France and internationally.
